Language Arts Festival @ NYGH

7 lucky participants had the opportunity to attend a "buffet" held at Nanyang Girls' High. Our day began with the dessert where we were treated to a variety of activities which we could take part in. Our aspiring poets took part in the poetry writing competition organised by the British Council, some had a twisting good time at the Word Twister booth, some had a go at fishing for idioms, many queued up at the Charlotte's Web booth while some browsed through the array of books up for sale.

After our "dessert", we had lunch at the canteen before going for our "appetiser", which was the Poetry Grand Slam performance at the auditorium. While the group went for their "main course", which was a Poetry workshop, I went for a teachers' workshop on Drama in the Classroom. The eventful day ended with the National Spelling Championship.

"Let's Be Creative" Vitagen Challenge

The Green Club members, Kai Kang, Jasmine and Eliza, together with 2 other challengers, Danielle and Jin Ting, took part in the first Vitagen Challenge held at United Square Basement 1. We did not have much time to practise but we were rather satisfied with the final product on that day. Our initial idea went through a series of changes after a few rounds of brainstorming and refinements. We finally settled on using the concept of the KL Twin Towers but painted it according to our school colours and called it Rainbow Tower instead.

I guess everyone had fun on that day even though we did not pick up the top prizes. When does one have the opportunity to "play around" with Vitagen bottles at a shopping mall on a Saturday afternoon and chase after the BIC guy and Vitagen mascot? Even I had loads of fun helping out with some of the painting and "laying" of roads! A big THANK YOU to everyone who have contributed their ideas and materials (Ili, Kai Qi) and had put in their best to make the challenge a success!

PBL Day 2

The various taskforce continued with solving the problem based on their areas of focus. They had to work out the To-Do List, fill up the KND Table and plan what they would include in their slides or posters.

As some groups requested to have their group photo to be in their presentation slides, every group had their group photos taken :)

Two groups, Taskforce 7-4 and The Clever Minds also started the ball rolling by presenting their solutions to the problems with their skits.

PBL Day 1

Week 10 of Term 2 is a special week for the P3 and P4s.
Instead of the usual lessons, the class embarked on a challenging task to work together in specially set up 'taskforce' to tackle the following problem:

Due to a natural disaster, water pipes from Malaysia to Singapore have been damaged. It will take one month to repair the damage. Thus Singaporeans will not get fresh water supply and have to depend on its own water resource during this time.
You are a part of the task force, which was set up to look into how Singaporeans can sustain themselves with this limited water supply during this period.

Randomly grouped into groups of 6 (with one group having 7), each member took on one of the following roles:
Manager, Reporter, Encourager, Peacekeeper, Discipline Master, Check and/or Timekeeper.

For a start, every taskforce had to come up with a group name as well as a group cheer.
Let's have a peek at their process of brainstorming for ideas and practising their group cheer!
Catch them in action during rehearsals too!
